Ryan Weber
Owner and Chief Janitor
Designing, building, and implementing projects has been part of my life and career from an early age. Growing up with a father who was a machinist and having access to a shop gave me the tools and resources early on to build what I imagined, or at least try.
In college, I focused on engineering and biological systems, receiving an undergraduate degree in biological engineering and a master’s degree in irrigation engineering. After college, I worked with irrigation companies to design, evaluate, and manage cost-effective and energy-efficient water systems. This work lead me to iDE, an international non-profit funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID that is focused on creating income opportunities for farmers in developing countries.
During my eight years with iDE, I designed and implemented market-driven energy and irrigation technologies for low-income farmers across the world and gained a unique perspective on the factors that limit or catalyze development and prosperity. Throughout this time, I had the opportunity to work closely with a diverse team of farmers, designers and engineers, market and supply chain specialists, and manufacturers, which immersed me in the entire process of moving an idea to a market-based solution.
As I watched fabrication technologies and software rapidly advance and become more accessible during recent years, I saw an opportunity to meet the niche design and fabrication needs of inventors, entrepreneurs, artists, and others, leading to the creation and growth of Weber Design Works.
